  • Dated from 1994, "What Am I Gonna Do" by Lee Johnson, a main character behind BBC 1Xtra's drum and bass, brought the best old school influences: the breakbeats are sampled from The Winstons - Amen, Brother, a Soul classic from 1969; the female vocals "My-my-my-mine!" belong to the House music singer Adeva, and the main ragga vocals are sampled as well - the original, considered among the best Nu Groove releases ever, belongs to vocalist Jango Thriller, singer on "It Could Not Happen (Essential Trance Hall Mix)" by Critical Rhythm (of the trio Victor Simonelli, Leonardo Didesiderio, Peter Kenton). Jango's quotes "What I'm gonna do... without you?" are behind the Little Rollers' music title ("What Am I Gonna Do"), and you can also hear other parts of the original such as "Oh, yeaah!". On "What Am I Gonna Do", L Double puts together the hottest influences - from the Soul breaks solo to Ragga and House vocals. Recommended!
